About Freighter Cruising
Welcome to the exciting world of Freighter Cruising – seeing
the world from a bulk cargo or container vessel.
Freighter Travel is here to advise you on all aspects of cargo
travel and to assist you in planning a trip to remember.
A cruise on a cargo ship could be the most rewarding experience
of your lifetime. You can visit places you have only dreamed about,
where traditional cruise ships may not call and return home with
a store of adventures and memories to cherish.
Cruise as a passenger with the merchant marine and savor the tranquility
and elements of the ocean without the hustle and bustle of a cruise
ship.
You get all the benefits of excellent accommodation and meals;
the opportunity to get to know the crew, the workings of the ship;
and an almost endless choice of destinations or ports of call.
Some cargo ships have a swimming pool and gymnasium which are shared
with the ships crew and/or officers.
Cruise Duration
Voyages can range from a round-the-world tour, taking perhaps 120
days, to an eleven-day coastal trip visiting Auckland, Wellington,
Nelson, Timaru and Tauranga. The possibilities are almost endless.
Options
Freighter Travel has the facility through our IATA Bonded Travel
Agency to combine your cruise with air travel or a land-based tour
or holiday.
This allows you to join any passenger cargo ship at your chosen
port of call, and to disembark at the time and destination to suit
your plans. You have the option of including a short cruise while
you are overseas, flying to and from your cruise, cruising to your
destination and flying home, or visa versa.
If your preference is for more than one cruise to see specific
ports of call, we can arrange your connecting flights, rental car,
accommodation and/or tours between cruises. We can also arrange
any documentation that you may require.
For some indication of the range of ports of call from which you
may choose please see the Destinations page.
Insurance and Health
On any overseas trip, adequate insurance is essential. You will
require full cover for all travel, luggage and medical for the
duration of your time overseas. If you are on medication make sure
you have an adequate supply. Freighters do not carry
qualified doctors, but one of the crew is often appointed as the
ships medical officer who can attend to minor problems.
Making Your Booking
Your holiday arrangements require our close liaison with you and
the shipping company. It must be appreciated that as you will be
sailing on a working ship you will need to have a flexible approach
to your travel arrangements. |
